Warranty service was excellent. Because the 20cc RE was out of stock, I purchased the Stinger 26cc RE engine. As delivered, the thread grooves for the spark plug were too shallow for the spark plug to be screwed in. I emailed the RCGF service department and received a phone call the next day from Mr. Nelson who was most helpful. He agreed this was a warranty issue and they would replace the engine. We also discussed the Ace 4-120 Biplane for which the engine is intended. He agreed the 20-RE would be a better match and that since the 20cc RE engines were back in stock, I could return the 26cc RE under warranty for either another 26cc RE or a 20cc RE plus an ignition kill switch. I opted for the 20cc RE and Mr. Nelson emailed me a priority shipping label to return the Stinger 26cc RE. Four days later, I was holding the 20cc RE in my hands. All looked good, except for very low compression. Running on a test stand proved the low compression was not an issue. I installed a Rev-Up 16-7 wood propeller since I did not have the recommended 16-8 break-in prop. I used an electric starter for the first run and it started easily. Successive runs were all easy hand starts. I did a series of 5 minute runs using the recommended 30:1 gas/Lawn Boy petroleum oil break-in mix. As the break-in continued, I leaned the low speed needle to improve the idle and get a smoother transition to full throttle. It should be noted that the low speed needle valve jet on Walbro carburetors flows continuously and the high speed jet only operates above about two thirds throttle. Therefore, the low speed needle valve is essential for adjusting the mid-range mixture. Don’t try to adjust the mid-range with the high speed needle valve. Be sure the engine has some running time and the low speed needle valve is properly set prior to adjusting the high speed needle valve. After an hour of accumulated running time, the tachometer showed a top speed of 8,820 rpm with a Rev-Up 16-7 prop and a slightly rich high speed mixture. The temperature was 64 degrees F. and the density altitude was 1,700 feet. I expect 9,000 rpm may be possible once the engine acquires several hours of running time and the high speed needle valve is properly adjusted. Overall, I am quite pleased with the Stinger 20cc RE engine.
